Our streamlined application process is designed to help us understand your unique skills, experience, and career goals while ensuring a positive candidate experience from first contact to your first day.
Step 1: Initial Application

- Current resume highlighting relevant nursing experience and current nursing license and relevant certifications
- Pre-Screening Questions
- Desired Possition and Employment Type If you do not pass this step, you will not receive a follow-up message.
Step 2: Initial Screening
- PICN will review your application within 5 business days
- If your application is approved, we will conduct a preliminary phone screening
- Answer questions about PICN and community nursing
- Determine next steps based on experience and opportunities If you do not pass this screen, you will not receive a follow-up message.
Step 3: Interview Process
- In-person or virtual interview with nursing leadership
- Clinical skills assessment
- Scenario-based questions
Step 4: Reference and Background Checks
- Professional reference verification
- Criminal Background Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening
- License verification and good standing confirmation
Step 5: Offer and Onboarding
- Competitive offer
- Negotiation of start date and requirements
- Comprehensive orientation planning
- Introduction to your mentor or preceptor
- Meet and greet with team members or mentors

Open Positions at PICN
Visiting Nurses – Multiple Positions Available
Practice Areas: Wound Care, Ostomy Care, IV Therapy, Post-Op Care
Location: Durham Region from west Pickering, north to Beaverton, east to Newtonville and south to Lake Ontario
Schedule: Flexible day shifts, Monday–Sunday availability preferred
Experience: 2+ years nursing experience, specialization preferred but not required
Requirements: Current RN/RPN license, reliable transportation, strong communication skills, police check with vulnerable sector screening
Shift Nurses – Pediatric Specialization
Practice Areas: Pediatric home care, respiratory support, complex medical needs
Location: Durham Region homes and schools
Schedule: Day, afternoon, evening, and overnight shifts inclusive of weekends and statutory holidays
Experience: Pediatric nursing experience preferred, new graduates with training welcome
Requirements: Current RN/RPN license, Vulnerable Sector Screening, pediatric training or willingness to complete
School Shift Nurses
Practice Areas: Coverage across all PICN services as needed
Location: Durham Region from west Pickering, north to Beaverton, east to Newtonville and south to Lake Ontario
Schedule: Will follow school year schedule and operational hours.
Experience: Pediatric nursing experience preferred, new graduates with training welcome
Requirements: Adaptability, strong clinical skills, willingness to work various roles
